Dentures are artificial replacements for your natural teeth and gums. They are recommended for patients with only a few healthy teeth, or if all teeth are missing. Dentures allow patients to eat and speak normally and lend support to the lower facial features. Thanks to remarkable advancements in modern dental technology, dentures have never looked, or felt, more natural. Dentures come in two types: partial or complete.
- Partial Dentures. Also known as “removable partial denture prostheses” or “partials.” Partial dentures consist of one or more artificial teeth that are held into place by clasps that secure themselves onto neighboring, natural teeth. They may be used when several teeth are missing, or when adjacent teeth aren’t solid enough to sustain a bridge. Partials can be easily removed at any time, whether for cleaning or sleep.
- Complete Dentures. Complete or “full dentures” are used when all of your natural teeth are missing. (top or bottom gum line, or both). They are held in place by suction and/or with the help of an oral adhesive. Just like partial dentures, complete dentures can be easily removed.
Whether you need partials or complete dentures, all are custom-designed to fit perfectly with your mouth and visually-match your former (or remaining) teeth. The end result is a functional, attractive and incredibly natural-looking smile!
