Left untreated, decay eventually causes extensive damage to the tooth and can lead to the infection of the root. If your dental exam reveals the presence of tooth decay, you might require a filling in the affected tooth. It goes without saying that the earlier your cavity is caught, the earlier we can treat it! At Mawlawi Dental Center, we offer both composite and amalgam fillings
- White Composite fillings There are many advantages of composite fillings – they’re invisible, cost less than other fillings and can be completed in one appointment (in most cases). Getting this kind of filling however depends on where the tooth is in your mouth. We bite down hard on our back teeth (molars), so a plastic filling may not be a good choice for teeth in that area,
- Silver Amalgam fillings Dental amalgam fillings are sometimes called “silver” fillings and are the most common type of filling used in Canada today. Because these fillings are silver in color, they are used to fill back teeth. They contain a mix of metals such as mercury, silver, copper and tin. Amongst their advantages, amalgams are long-lasting, inexpensive and are easy to put in place.
